Bigot Lakes is run by renowned French fish farmers Michel and Laurent Bigot. They started their first carp fishing lakes in the 1990s.
The Bigot carp lakes are long established and Michel and Laurent Bigot are experts in fishery management. They are also major suppliers of big carp to lakes all over France. They provide lake netting services and give professional advice to their customers. Today the team includes qualified fish farmers, licensed fish transporters and experienced carp anglers.
Although the Bigots are highly respected throughout the industry, you’ll find a friendly and welcoming atmosphere at their venues.
The Team at Bigot Lakes
Michel runs the whole busy show from his busy office at the fish farm. When he's not bogged down with paperwork, Michel has a personal involvement in all aspects of his businesses. During certain times Michel can be spotted all over France delivering fish his articulated lorry.
One of Michel's greatest regrets is never learning to speak English and likes to meet his anglers whenever there’s an interpreter about. Luckily, Michel's son Laurent speaks English very well.
Laurent manages the day-to-day stuff. In winter his time is mainly taken up with netting, sorting and delivering fish to customers. In summer he is the manager and bailiff of Bigot Lakes. Between them, Michel and Laurent own and run the Bigot fish farm and the carp and catfish venues known as Bigot Lakes.
Laurent speaks English and has become personal friends with many of his regular carp anglers over the years. Whenever he gets time, Laurent likes nothing better than having a laugh with his customers.
Like Michel, Laurent also spends many hours behind the wheel transporting fresh water fish species all over France.
Aymeric is an experienced carp and catfish angler and an expert on fresh water fish. His knowledge about the fish and the fishing in the local lakes and rivers is second to none.
Like the rest of the team, Aymeric spends most of the winter months chest deep in freezing cold water. When he's not netting lakes, he's out delivering live bait to the many tackle shops in the area.
To the Brits, Aymeric is affectionately known as 'The Viking' and his passions are hunting and fishing. He can often be spotted attending to jobs in and around the carp lakes in summer.
Benoit first started working at the Bigot fish farm way back in 2009 when he was just 18. Starting with learning the ropes, he moved on to taking temporary jobs during busy periods at the fish farm.
Over the years, Benoit kept his hand in by helping out whenever he could and his persistence and effort eventually paid off. He gained his HGV licence and is now a permanent member of the team.
Like Aymeric, Benoit can sometimes be spotted in the background in and around the carp lakes during the summer.
Amongst other things, Philippe helps to look after the grounds around the lakes and at the fish farm. He’s the guy who is responsible for making sure things are kept tidy and refuse is recycled properly, so please help him by respecting the grounds. He particularly appreciates it when anglers don't leave rubbish and bottles at the swims.
Apart from Laurent and Shirley, Philippe is the person you are most likely to see in and around the carp lakes during the summer months. You won't always know he is there though because he gets on with his jobs quietly and efficiently.
Although you may not spot him, you can be sure that Philippe is always somewhere close by in the background, helping to make sure all is as it should be.
Adeline makes sure the facilities are clean for your arrival. You can help her by waiting until she has been in to clean before you put any of your things inside the facilities.
Adeline runs a company that has a cleaning contract with Bigot Lakes. Although she doesn't speak English, you'll somehow get the message if you stop her doing her job. She quite rightly gets very upset if the venues are left in a mess.
You may well meet Adeline on arrival or departure day. These are very busy days for her because she has to get round all four venues in quite a short space of time. Three of the venues have accommodation facilities, so she has an awful lot to do on Saturdays. Most guests appreciate this and try not to leave a mess for her to clear up.
Shirley and Martin
Shirley and Martin are English and deal with your enquiries and help with your booking arrangements. They live up the road from Bigot Lakes and Shirley will visit you during your stay. Shirley and Martin own and run Oakview Lake. They have 10 years' experience running this successful carp fishery and a number of anglers are regular visitors to both Oakview and Bigot Lakes.
Although Oakview and Bigot Lakes are separate, they work closely together to ensure all their venues are well stocked and well managed. Most importantly, they work together to ensure that their customers are kept up to date with news and how the lakes are fishing.
So when you go carp fishing in France at Bigot Lakes, you can have confidence that you are being looked after by French and English experts in all aspects of fishery management. You won't see it because we prefer to stay in the background and let you enjoy your well-earned fishing break.
